On 16th May, Coldplay released their sixth album called “Ghost Stories”, including songs like: “Magic”, “A Sky Full of Stars” and “Midnight”.

For those of you, who don’t know this amazing band yet, here’s a little summary: they formed almost 18 years ago; they play alternative rock music; some of their most famous songs (that we believe you will know for sure) are “In My Place”, “Trouble”, “Clocks”, “Talk”, “Viva la Vida”,  and “The Scientist”.

With this new album, front singer Chris Martin tries to process his sudden breakup with his wife Gwyneth Paltrow, a well-known actress. The band recorded the whole album between 2012 and 2013 in London.

In an interview with BBC Radio 1‘s Zane Lowe Chris Martin said about album:

“The idea of Ghost Stories, for me, was “how do you let the things that happen to you in the past – your ghosts – how do you let them affect your present and your future?” Because there was a time when I was feeling like they were going to drag me down and ruin my life, and the lives of those around me. I was very lucky to meet a very good teacher who started to introduce the idea of “if you sit with your experiences and the things you’ve been through, they alchemize.” At the time he said that, I didn’t really know what that meant, but I trusted that it would work, and the more that I was learning about that, the more music just started flowing through.”

The songs show the emotional levels of a breakup. From being sad to accepting what has happened. The message of the album is: „Accepting love doesn’t last forever“.

Even before its official release, the album had already made a lot of news – they released a few tracks, one after another, and during that time, were travelling through America and Europe promoting the album. This indeed created a lot of attention for the album.

The songs sound very different from the more recent albums of the band. Coldplay wants to go back to the more acoustic sound of their older songs like „Fix you“, „The Scientist“ or „Clocks“. Many people describe the whole album as a more sentimental one in which you can let your emotions come out freely.

The cover was created by Mila Fürstová and consists of two angel wings in which different scenarios are shown: a couple in love, a man facing a mirror, etc. She created the covers for the other singles as well, they show a dove, an owl and seals. Every cover has the same background: The blue ocean under a sky full of stars.
